Sights of the Gastein Valley
The symbol of the resort is the waterfall, which flows in the very center of this historical place. This waterfall has repeatedly become the subject of works by many famous artists and poets. The height of the three-stage waterfall is 341 m.
Air filled with negative
ions is an important treatment that has a beneficial effect on the well-being of resort guests. The sources of the Gastein Falls are the Anlauf stream and the Nassfelder Ache, which begin their journey in the heart of the Hohen Tauern National Park. The construction of the stone bridge over the waterfall began in 1840 and was completed in 1927.
The trail along the Gasteiner Ache (from Bad Bruck to Bad Gastein) has been open to tourists since the summer of 2008.
Klamstein Castle
The Klamstein Castle, restored two decades ago, is located at the very
beginning of the Gastein Valley. Every visitor will find something interesting here.
The restored tower houses a small museum containing numerous documents from the history of the castle: paintings, antiques, tools, as well as a collection of old skis and ski equipment.
For family recreation, we organize a real medieval knight's feast at a huge table, where you can only eat with your hands and drink from huge cups, followed by a treasure hunt and a ghost hunt. Sleigh rides with appropriate music and torchlight are especially popular.
Thermal springs
The healing properties of Gastein thermal water have been known since the 7th century. Studies have shown that precipitation in the area of Graukogel and Hüttenkogel (1800 m above sea level) penetrates to a depth of 2000 meters and is heated naturally, then beats from 18 different springs at an altitude of 1000 m, giving out up to 5 million liters per day.
Thermal radon-containing water with a temperature of 44-47 ° is weakly mineralized.
At first, water from the springs was delivered through open wooden gutters to hotels, and later through wooden well pipes, and only in 1830 a thermal water line was built.
For hygienic purposes, a trip to any spring (Elizabeth spring) is only possible in the context of a historical guide.
Museum in old Böckstein
On At the turn of the century, gold was found here, which caused a gold rush. After some time, more precisely in 1432, the head of the federal state of Salzburg, Archbishop Heinrich of Pirnbrunn
legalized the extraction of precious metals.
At the end of the 15th century, a large mining industry developed here with the capital of southern German trading houses. The most famous of them was the enterprise of the Fugger family, followed by local large firms: Weitmosser, Zott and Strasser.
The most profitable year is considered to be 1557
year, the extraction of which is 830 kg
of gold and three times this amount of silver per year.
Today, the museum consists of three main objects: stone works, gold mining and salt mining. In order to somehow bring you closer to that era, a demonstration of the gold mining process is held. The mountain museum is definitely worth a visit.
Sportgastein-Nassfeld
It took a lot of effort to finally reach the top of the Hohen Tauern Nature Reserve
Today, Nassfeld is accessible via the Alpenstrasse toll road, which was built between 1967 and 1972.
You will have a half-hour journey with fantastic views to the Hagener Hut. At the top, a panorama of Nassfeld and the northern Alps opens up. There is enough time left to drink the crystal clear mountain water gushing from the springs.
